Police investigate attempted child abduction

State police are investigating an attempted child abduction which took place Monday in the corners of the West.

About 2 h 30, a 10 years walking home from school was arrested on the Avenue de Catherine by a man and a woman in a van, police said. They said the child that her parents were at the hospital and he attempted to him in the vehicle, described as a relatively new red van with a magnet Ribbon from American flag.

The pilot was described as a black man while the front seat passenger was a black woman. A child of two years on the seat back, police said.

Police investigate abduction bids

17 January 2011, said update at 17: 01 GMT Tina Wallace Tina Wallace if worried for the safety of her young son Police have confirmed that they are investigating a series of child kidnapping in east Belfast attempts.

PSNI appealed for information about a series of incidents in the areas of Lord Street, Euston Street and Clarawood Park.

They all involve a suspect who tried to coax children of primary school in a silver car.

In the region, parents have criticized police for submissions of removal action.

Tina Wallace, wife of the Ulster Paddy Wallace, rugby player said she heard about the issue on Facebook, not the police.

She told the BBC: "Parents of children in local schools had made posts on Facebook to educate other parents".

"They are quite stunned by the volume of kidnapping attempts in the region, but nobody has been taken."

According to the Belfast telegraph one of these incidents involved a nine year old boy, who promised candy if it is mounted in the car.

Patrols

PSNI sector for east Belfast Commander Yvonne Davidson, Chief Inspector insisted police take seriously the question and informed a number of schools in the region on incidents.

But she invited parents, do not panic.

She said: "last week we had a small number of incidents involving a vehicle of money and children." We felt it was important to communicate with schools that the children were connected to alert principals.

"We are always actively investigate these incidents." We also had high visibility schools patrols to reassure parents.

"It seems to be a bit of hysteria in and around incidents." No there was no kidnapping, abduction are extremely rare.
