"Dancing into His Promise" is the title of this year's annual Christmas Concert presented by St. John's Lutheran Church and School at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at 47th and Brainard in La Grange. Under the direction of David Christian, this evening will feature St. John's adult and children's choirs and ensembles, orchestra, two handbell choirs and the sacred dance ensemble. Home-baked European and American cookies, breads and other specialty items will be featured at the annual Holiday Cookie Walk on Dec. 11 at St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church of Burr Ridge, 6980 S. Hinsdale Central High School presents its second annual Madrigal Dinner on Dec. 12. Attendees will travel back in time to a Renaissance feast complete with court jesters, town criers, actors, musicians, and the Royal Court of Madrigal Singers. This year, to accommodate the high demand, there will be two seatings for a complete dinner: 2 and 5:30 p.m. Both shows will be identical and will be held within an intimate setting and include Renaissance and holiday music. The Hinsdale Center for the Arts Holiday Home Tour from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 5 features four Oak Brook residences, each uniquely decorated and equipped with different musicians who will perform live for visitors. The homes include: "The Ultimate Christmas Home" at 18 Devonshire Drive, boasting two Christmas trees, one adorned entirely in crystal and the other a vintage variety with bubble lights. "A Tall Oaks Christmas" at 317 Glendale Ave. is memorable for its extensive entryway and circular drive amid a picturesque holiday backdrop of tall oak trees. "An English Country Manor" at 522 Wennes Court is a Tudor-style home built in 2008 that backs up to Fullersburg Woods on a 1.5-acre site. The city of Elmhurst commemorates its 100th year of incorporation with a look back at the last century through rare photos, artifacts and video. "Century City" contemplates how Elmhurst was affected by the change from a village to a city form of government in 1910, and tells the stories of visionaries and innovations that have shaped the city in its first 100 years. The Community Housing Association of DuPage, an organization dedicated to providing quality affordable housing for moderate and low income families throughout the DuPage area, will sponsor a Holiday Gift Drive for families living in CHAD apartments, townhomes and houses. Continuing a long-standing tradition, the Darien Lions Club is collecting non-perishable food and donations for its annual Holiday Food Basket program. This year, the club has set a goal to help 200 Darien-area families. Food basket distribution, done by club members, their families and other volunteers, will take place Dec. 18 from the Darien Park District building. The Theatre of Western Springs is participating in the holiday toy drive Toys for Tots at the theater located at 4384 Hampton Ave., Western Springs. Donations of new yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, scissors, simple patterns and yards of fleece are being sought by members of Operation Warm Hearts, a group of women who crochet, knit and create mittens, scarves, hats, lap robes and infant hats and booties for distribution to west suburban charitable organizations. Sharing Connections Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides furniture and household items such as cribs, beds, tables and chairs, dressers and couches to individuals and families living at or below the poverty level. They also need kitchen and household items such as silverware, microwaves, cleaning products and dishes. The Rev. Geoffrey A. NEDSRA, serving DuPage and Cook Counties, opens registration for its new fall schedule with various programming for children and adults with disabilities. The programs are held at NEDSRA, 1770 W. Centennial Place in Addison, or in surrounding communities.

New sports programs include a figure skating and speed skating for youth and adults with mental disabilities, on Saturdays up to Jan. 29. at the Carol Stream Ice Rink. Also on the schedule is a gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics team for youth and adults with a mental disability. This program, which will let athletes train for the Special Olympics District competition in April, begins Saturdays, Nov. 6 to April 9, with location to be determined.

NEDSRA will continue its two Kids Klubs for youth with a mental disability or autism. Day Trippers, a program for adults with mental disabilities, will continue to meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Discounted rates are available for those who register for more than one day.
