Killeen to establish a task force of the abduction of a child

Matt Johnson

KILLEEN-city officials are target group of child abduction. They say it will help parents feel safer about sending their children to school.

With predator suspect child remains in the streets of mayor Tim Hancock said he believes the time has come for action.

"It is the responsibility of the Council to get involved more than we have been involved in the past," Hancock says.

After hearing about 11-year-old girl, stolen earlier this month, and Interinstitutional John Hancock Purser decided to take action.

Over the last few months were on their way to school bus stops and then the sexual assault of two girls. Police investigate whether two separate incidents related, but acknowledged both have similarities.

Just last week, Fort Hood highlighted the possible child abductions.

"When they get back to the bus stop (bus), whose responsibility it is to these children?" asked Hancock. "It's our responsibility."

This is why the Mayor and Purser without waiting for the other child was injured.

"What we're trying to do together with CPA, KISD and the city of Killeen combine these three institutions to make the community aware of that we got to get our kids safe and out of school," said Purser.

Even with the added police presence in schools and bus stops, the mayor said, the community will have to get involved as well.

"It is quite impossible for the Police Department even joins the police school, check each of these stops and routes for kids," Hancock says. "Someone will have to step forward."

Purser hopes to organize volunteers escort to as many children as they can at bus stops.? However, they will have the first pass.

"When we get organized, we hope will provide t-shirts or shirts for them so that children can recognize them from this paragraph that they are. Thus, they always know what the person is safe, "said Purser.

Hancock said it would examine the involvement of experts on crime and create jobs for the coordination of the task force.? He said it would begin to organize a general meeting of citizens to express their concern, beginning next year.
